Under a cost sharing cooperative agreement with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), BQ Energy is studying the feasibility of installing a wind energy facility as part of the redevelopment of the Fresh Kills landfill. NYSERDA elected to participate in the project based partly on the strong support for wind energy use at the site expressed by Staten Island Borough President James P Molinaro.
BQ Energy’s work will be conducted through the end of 2006 and will be focused on the measurement of available winds at the site, and also of looking at the possibilities for the design of wind turbine foundations which will be acceptable and safe for use at the closed landfill site.
